Yasaka Shrine

Yasaka Shrine

1h
Address:
Kitagawa 625, Gion-machi, Higashiyama-ku,
Kyoto, Japan

Just a few minutes walk from Gion, the red and white gateway to Yasaka Shrine looms large over the eastern end of Shijo Street. An impressive structure in its own right, Yasaka’s appeal is made even stronger by Maruyama Park stretching out behind it – one of the most popular places in the city for cherry blossom viewing parties (o-hanami) when Japan’s favorite petals saturate the country pink in spring.

Consider joining a local scholar on a 3 hour walking tour exploring Shinto and Buddhist landmarks, including this shrine: http://www.viator.com/eap/site/1/6684/tours/5411KYO76541SG

Take bus number 100 or 206 from Kyoto Station to Gion (15 minutes) and then a short walk east along Shijo Street.
