Golden Pass Train Line
Escape into the Swiss Alps for an afternoon’s journey through some of the world’s most spectacular scenery. Make the 90-minute rail journey between Geneva airport and Montreux (trains run every half hour, CHF34) at the head of Lac Leman, stopping off in pretty Lausanne, passing vines in serried rows, dodging waterfalls, and racing through tunnels, all with fabulous views of the Dents-du-Midi peaks, snow-capped across the lake. For those with longer layovers, the Golden Pass route runs a three-car train from Montreux along a panoramic route through the mountains to Lucerne; book ahead for tickets.
