Cork’s butter market opened in 1770 and was the largest in the world, bringing great prosperity to the city until its closure in 1924. Here butter was graded and exported in barrels to the four corners of the globe.. The museum tells the story of this most important export as well as that of food culture in early Ireland. Group tours and off-season visits are available.
