A kiss isn’t just a kiss: This historic castle, built in 1446, is most famous for the Blarney Stone, which traditionally confers nothing less than eloquence on all who kiss it. The stone is set in the wall below the castle battlements; in order to kiss it, the visitor is held by the feet and leans backwards (grasping an iron railing) under the parapet. The grounds offer some attractive walks including a grove of ancient yews and limestone rock formations. End with a visit to nearby Blarney Woollen Mills for some Irish souvenirs.

Five miles northwest of Cork City. The local Bus Eireann leaves from Cork bus station in Parnell Place approx. every hour. There are also open-top buses direct to Blarney. For timetable inquiries, ring 021-450-8188 or visit Web site www.buseireann.ie
