Although there are few ‘sights’ per se in Positano, it is one of the most charming resorts along the Amalfi Coast; endlessly photogenic, despite the well-heeled crowds, and endlessly glamorous, because of them. Cheerily decorated apartments and villas in shades of white, red, and ochre lurch down the hillside towards the Mediterranean Sea, which seems to sparkle even more brightly here. Lunch in the expensive restaurants lining the pebbled beach is a must for people-watching, when you are likely to see a heady mix of Italian politicians, English soccer players, and international pop stars popping in on their super-yachts to get married in discreet hotels behind the town.
If you fancy a bit of retail therapy, now’s your chance to purchase cheery sandals, flip flops, and clogs, sold everywhere and all made locally; part of Positano’s cutesy charm. All car parking is in Piazza del Mulini at the top of the town; from here walk down through the charming streets and fortify yourself with a glass of prosecco at a beach-side bar for the long haul back to the car park.
