The great great son of the last king of Bavaria still puts up his feet here. Surely, this in itself is enough of a reason to tempt you to Schloss Nymphenburg. It’s the stuff of 17th century dreams- Bavarian chocolate box romance at its very finest. Canals weave their way across manicured lawns. Marble sculptures add reassuring chess board symmetry and joy de vivre bounces off the cream and yellow rococo facade. Four miniature secret palaces- personal playhouses of long deceased royalty- toy with architectural preferences ranging from chinoiserie to romantic ruins. Take your time to get face to face with 18th century celebrities. The much lauded gallery of beauties displays the most eye-catching women of their time. And don’t worry. You can rest your weary feet in the cafe under palm trees and the tram stops right outside the castle. You should schedule at least half a day for this excursion. The gardens are at their most beautiful in the summer.
