Schleissheim’s palace complex offers three palaces and a splendid garden originally built in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the center, the New Palace is rated one of Europe’s best examples of residential palaces in the baroque style. The ceiling frescoes, which set a trend in South Germany, carved paneling and stucco decoration are among the highlights. As was common in the baroque period, the palaces and garden are laid out symmetrically. The garden with its fountains and pools is rated one of the most important surviving examples of the period. There is a restaurant near the Old Palace.
From Munich central station, take subway S1 (direction "Freising / Flughafen") to "Oberschleissheim". From there it's about 15 minutes walk to the Schleissheim palaces.
