Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Twice the size of Hong Kong, Lantau is the 264-strong archipelago’s largest island. It is home to Hong Kong International Airport, the stilt-house fishing village of Tai O and Hong Kong Disneyland as well as the Tian Tan Buddha. This vast bronze statue is the world’s tallest outdoor Buddha, and it sits above the serene Po Lin Monastery. Ascend to the Buddha via the viewtastic Ngong Ping 360, a 25-minute cable car ride heading high over the craggy hillsides to the ‘culturally themed’ Ngong Ping mountaintop village near the Buddha. Hiking fans can follow some of the region’s loveliest trails around Lantau.
