Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Since its original incarnation in 1988, this bustling commercial hub in Wan Chai has been expanded several times. Much of today’s elegant building was constructed on a large slice of reclaimed land at a cost of HK$5 billion and it was the venue for Britain’s ceremonial handing over of Hong Kong to China on 1 July 1997. Take a look at the golden sculpture of ‘Forever Blooming Bauhini’ that stands outside; this was presented by the Central Government of China to mark Hong Kong’s inauguration as the Special Administrative Region. The center now hosts trade fairs and conventions as well as being the premier HK venue for big-name concerts and fashion shows. As the convention center juts right out into Victoria harbour, this is a great spot to take photos of the impressive skyscrapers of Central, including 1IFC and the Bank of China building.
