At this museum, kids are allowed, even encouraged, to run, jump and climb exhibits, activities that could get them ejected from most other museums. The exhibits are designed to entertain the 12 and under set, though the target age is closer to 5 through 8. Older kids may find the displays too childish.

The most popular activity is KidsWork, A three story playground where the young ones can climb up ladders, propel down a zip line, cross a creaky swing bridge and chute down one of the largest slides they will ever see. The exhibit is sturdy enough to let parents aboard, just don’t embarrass yourself when you need rescuing.

Younger kids will enjoy Wonders of Water, recommended for ages 2 through 5. Children learn about flotation and splashing in fun interactive ways. Yes they will get wet, so the museum offers slickers and crocs as a courtesy service.

The indoor soccer field provides a playing field that lets the children loose, playing one on one or in a group with their new friends. Down on the Farm simulates rural life where kids can milk a faux cow or comb the hair of a faux horse.

When you need a break, head to the Oasis, a room full of lounge pillows, books and games. The area is designated as a quiet room, where relaxation is stressed.

The Port Discovery Children's Museum is a few blocks north of Inner Harbor.

As this is in the Baltimore business district, there is very little on street parking. The Museum has a parking garage adjacent to their facility and can validate parking, giving visitors a discounted $7 all day rate.

The Baltimore Metro/Subway Shot Tower/Market Place stop is located in the plaza just outside the Museum's doors.

From Inner Harbor, the Museum is an easy two block walk north of the US Coast Guard Ship Taney.
